No-exam life insurance

Which applicants qualify for faster underwriting decisions, how the process works, and what to expect if you do not qualify.

Many insurers today provide accelerated underwriting: for applicants meeting age and coverage limits, they make a decision based on your application, prescription information, driving records, and other data sources without needing a medical exam. Some approvals are decided within hours. Each quote shown here indicates for that product whether an exam will be required, might be required, or is not expected.

What it changes

No exam does not mean no underwriting review. The carrier checks your answers and records, and a policy issued based on inaccurate information can be challenged during the first two years. If their investigation reveals concerns, they may request an exam or lab work anyway—you can decide then whether to move forward.

Who tends to qualify

Usually people under about age 60, applying for coverage up to what the carrier considers reasonable for accelerated underwriting, with no serious health conditions and no tobacco use in the past 12 months or longer. Some carriers will substitute recent medical records from your doctor if you have had a visit with bloodwork done.

Should an exam be needed, it is typically a 20 to 30 minute appointment conducted by a medical professional at your residence or workplace in the San Dimas region, provided at no expense. For applicants in good health, exam findings can even improve your rate class, making the exam potentially beneficial rather than a drawback.
